NEO Motion Night Lights: Stairs, Hallways and Guest Rooms

NEO motion night light.

These are indoor night lights. Old European houses are full of steep stairs, a step down into the bathroom, light switches at the wrong end of the corridor. You learn them. Your parents visiting for a fortnight, or guests in a gîte or holiday let, don't. A small light that comes on by itself when someone gets up in the night is one of the cheapest safety improvements you can make.

Short answer

NEO is a pair of palm-sized, battery night lights that switch on when they sense movement, recharge over USB-C and hang on a magnetic base, so there's nothing to wire. €24.90 for two on lumihome.com (Nov. 5, 2026). At 30 lumens they light the floor, not the room. Indoors only.

Where it ships: Lumihome delivers to France, Belgium, Germany, Spain, Italy, the Netherlands and Portugal only. Not the UK, Ireland, Switzerland or anywhere outside the EU (as listed on lumihome.com on Nov. 5, 2026; check their site on the day).

Why it's worth it for older visitors

The World Health Organization counts falls as the second leading cause of unintentional injury deaths worldwide, with adults over 60 most affected. A dark, unfamiliar route from bed to bathroom is a classic setting for one.

  • Light the route, not the room. One light by the bedroom door, one at the bathroom door, one at the top of any stairs.
  • Mount low. 30 to 50 cm above the floor lights the ground and the first step without shining into tired eyes.
  • No switch to find. It comes on as they walk past and goes off by itself.

Setting them up in a guest room or holiday let

  1. Charge both fully first. The first charge takes 6 to 8 hours over USB-C; later top-ups take 2 to 3.
  2. Stick the magnetic bases, not the lights. Clean the spot with alcohol, press the adhesive base for 30 seconds and leave it overnight before hanging the light. On rough lime plaster or stone, a small screw holds better than adhesive.
  3. Walk the route at night and move a light if any step is still in shadow.
  4. For a holiday let, mention them in your house notes so guests don't unplug or pocket them, and recharge them at each changeover.

Who it suits, who it doesn't

Good fit: homes with visiting parents or grandparents; gîte and holiday-let owners; renters who can't add wiring; stairs and corridors with no socket.

Pick something else if: you want a reading light (30 lumens is too dim); it would sit near a shower or outdoors (it is IP20, indoor and dry only); or you need light outside the door (try the solar PULSAR wall light).

Questions

How long does a charge last?

Lumihome doesn't publish a figure. The 750 mAh cell holds about 2.8 Wh; lighting only on motion, a few weeks between charges is a reasonable expectation.

Round or rectangular?

Same light, different shell: round is 8.6 cm across, rectangular 8 × 7.5 cm. Rectangular sits neater inside cupboards.

Is a cable included?

The spec line says no; the box contents list a USB cable. Any USB-C phone cable works.

Do they ship to the UK?

No. France, Belgium, Germany, Spain, Italy, the Netherlands and Portugal only.
